Background

Anathème

During antiquity this word designated a sacrifice or a tribute in the Greco-roman world. For the Hebrews this word was synonym for heresy. I gave this name to the city where the Manastar sat because both definitions can fit. The first from Manastar's own point of view, which see themselves as the spokesmen of the only god, Elohim. The other definition fits from Manastar's enemies point of view, whom see it as an important deformation of Elohim's vision.

The technology, the magic : a divine gift

Feodal architecture and modern technology, electricity is not mastered but some sort of magic gives other means to hit a similar technologic level as ours. This magic is not the same as in "Harry Potter" or "The Lord of the Rings" but is more like divine gifts. Those gifts are seen as common as talents such as drawing, playing music, make bread… Some have stronger predispositions in any given field, others does not see any interest in manipulating elements just like some peoples do not see any interest in drawing in example…
In short, mastering one or numerous elements is a capacity like any other.

The Manastar, government inquisitorial

The Manastar, inquisitorial government
This world is held under an inquisitorial religious government. The Manastar, seat of the government based in the city of Anatheme, wants to expand the reign of an only god, Elohim. The real fail of this government is their bad interpretation of the writings, and to apply their rules too radically while imposing their own rules they see as fundamentals.

Elements

Elohim created the world within seven days. He consacred one day for each element and thus created the world as we know it nowadays. Every new year is extolled by a week of celebration. Every day is themed to its corresponding element.

he latter element was censured by the Manastar (see below)

The writings and prophecies

Elohim created the world just like our god created ours. Same events : Balaheme, a Myriad (angel) rebelled taking one third of the myriads with him and proclaiming himself superior divinity. Soon the war raged between the two factions. But a prophecy claimed that Elohim's armies' commander would track down the leader Goyle (demon) and would chain him for 1000 years. The Goyles take advantage of this rumor to act with discretions.

But another myriad revolts and take with him one more third of the remaining myriads. We, now, have three armies with equal effectives, one representing the Good, the other the Evil and the third the god of compromise. He will soon become the god of the ateimpi, the atheists.

Physical creatures and spiritual creatures

Anatheme's universe is populated with various creatures mostly with a human like intelligence, or even greater. The events of the Babylone tower not happening in this universe, every races speak the same language.
The Myriads and the Goyles are battling an invisible war which stakes are our souls. The whisper things in our ears. We do not perceive them but our free will, or conscious, filter those whispers. Thus we do have our decision in this war. Some peoples get the ability to see and talk to this creature, even to chase them. This ability is acquired from Goyles and Myriades and can be temporary or permanent.

Reifs

The reifs, called seitis by Manastar, represent a community that is not subdued to the government. They point Manastar's censoring of the seventh element and laws that are not conform to the Writings.
In the past, the Manastar chased them and executed them publicly. Nowadays the government became less rigid and tolerate them but still crack down.

The ceremony ot the twelve rolans

The ceremony of the twelve rolans
Inquisitional army's elites, they are the avatars of the twelve Myriad leaders of divine legions. For every generation, is organisated a ceremony, in which are chosen the twelve Rolans, each receiving the protection of one of the Myriad leader. The one who falls under the protection of Balaheme will be banished of Anatheme and hunted by the remaining eleven Rolans. This ritual is also an initiation to the Rolans.
The rolans thus become the elite of the inquisitorial army, they are assigned to mission ranging from the protection of important personalities to investigations in hostile area or even maintening public order during riots…
